25 Random Things about Me!

1. I'm the richest person in the world because of my wonderful loving husband, Kevin, of 23 1/2 years. We are true soulmates. He is wonderful, we are a team. We help each other. We built an airplane together, and he will help me with laundry, dishes, cleaning, whatever!

In the hospital after 2nd heart attack. All I see is the love in his eyes.

2. I love Dolphins! I grew up watching Flipper on television in the 1960's. I have swam with dolphins 2x thanks to Kevin. When we had our clinic my entire office was dolphins, I had a walpaper wall mural!

3. Neil Diamond is the BEST singer songwriter in the WORLD! I do like other music and very eclectic taste, but I LOVE NEIL! I've seen him in concert 8 times, and here in Lubbock, back in 2002 he motioned me to the stage with my then 5 yr old saughter and sang to her and I and Kissed both of us on the cheek!

4. I love Disney, anything Disney. I've been to Walt Disney World (WDW) 8 or 9 times only because we joined the Disney Vacation Club (DVC). I use to be a Cast Member (CM). I worked a the local Disney Store in the mall 13 yrs ago. I worked strictly for the discount and free park tickets, I didn't make any money! My kids love Disney, and we love Star Wars Weekends at WDW in the summer.

5. I'm the Scrapbook Queen according to my neice in Oklahoma! Other nick names I have been given are Carebear - LONG before any little cartoon characters, Karat, and Chicokie! I was born in Chicago and went to colleg in Oklahoma!!!

6. I'm a collector - or some people would say packrat! I have a Dachshund figurine collection started when I was 10, I use to have a postcard collection, wait, Mom may still have that, I hae a miniature bottle collection up in the attic, I have a doctor figurine collection for my husband, we have an airplane figurine collection, I have a small camera collection, I have a massive button/pin collection, I have a lot of Disney stuff all thru my home, 2 of my sons have massive Star Wars collections - the 21 yr old's apartment is totally SW- he has all my 1970's stuff. Did I mentions tree ornaments? I'm sure there is something I'm leaving out, but I think you get the idea.

7. So If I love to Scrapbook, I must love photography, right? Yep, friends have said that if I were stranded on a desert island, I would have my camera!

8. I love Sci-Fi just about anything Sci-Fi.

9. Stargate SG-1 Have all 10 seasons on DVD and can almost name every episode. We'll have Stargate weekends where we just watch it all weekend. We have 400 some odd channels on TV and there's never anything on to watch!!

10. I'm a hopeless romantic - and my husband is to. He could teach a few men how to do 10 yr anniversaries!

11. I don't buy clothes, shoes, electronics, 'stuff' unless it is on sale. I'm a number 1 bargain hunter! Even in WDW I find stuff on sale! I watch adds and get my scrapbooking stuff on sale!!!

12. Kevin is a family physician - NOT a cardiologist - big income difference lay people! I pride myself on not being a snobby Doctor's wife! I like people to get to know me and then find out I'm married to a doc!

13. My 4 kids are everything to me - and we take pride that they are mannerly and well behaved especially out in public. They don't run around in restaurants!

14. We like to party, with the kids! Kids friends are frequently here at the house. Friends think we are cool parents. We're 48 and don't act old and stuffy! At Halloween we had 40 4th and 5th graders running around playing about 8 different games at stations. NYE we had 45 adults and kids playing games, eating, doing sparklers, and ringing in the New Year!

The den on NYE with friends visiting.
NOTICE the frame on R side of pic it is only 1 of my frames of PINS. I have the 2 walls to the basement completely filled with frames filled with buttons and pins!

15. I helped my husband build an airplane in our garage. Yes, a real 4 seat airplane!

This is our airplane!

16. We love to travel, my husband is a pilot. This is his hobby!

17. My degree from college is a bachelors in: Aviation Management - Bus. mgmt with emphasis in Aviation.

20. I have this blog because of her too!!

21. Oh, I'm on Twitter too because of her -Cfunk85! She's really corrupted me!! I love her and her amazing family dearly.

22. Because my Dad worked for NBC news in Chicago and Nightly news, I had the opportunity to meet many famous people such as: Richard Nixon and Family when I was 8 - They called me Little miss Press! Shelly Long started in Chicago with my Dad's crew, many of the MSNBC news reporters, George Peppard, and jane Pauley.

23. All 4 kids have special meaning in their names: Christopher Neil - Neil Diamond (Kev wouldn't go for Neil as a first name!); Tyler Alexander - Alex Trebec; Amelia Roxanne - Amelia Earhart; Alan Jonathan (AJ) - Alan Sheppard and John Glenn!

24. I aways wanted to be a pilot even when I was little. I ran out of money in college. I started out to be an airline pilot and switched majors. I thank the Lord for my aviation High School teacher or I probably wouldn't have gone to college!

Are you "JUST" a Stay at Home Mom?

Do you feel like you get put down because you stay home to take care of your kids and home? Have you been told you don't have a real job? Well, in the past these statements have been thrown out to me! Let me share some things with you.

Kevin, my wonderful husband, read an article awhile back, and we the SAHM's if paid would earn (2006) $134,121.00 as compared to a working Mom's average salary of $85,000!! That sounds like a real job to me.

It was also brought to my attention recently that I'm a SAHM who is never home. Probbly because I'm up at school volunteering, doing work for the teachers, trying to recruit physcians to do ER work (which I don't get paid unless they sign up and work 200 hours!), and running all those errands that we SAHM's take care of!

I'm on the PTA Board, head Room Mom for my 5th grader, and help several others with their events. I'm not bragging I just want to give you a brief list of what we SAHM's accomphlish in addition to our normal house duties.

- Donate $15,000 to our school!
- put in hundreds of volunteer hours to our school every month!
- Organize Spectacular Star Struck 10-31 assembly complete with 10 min slide show of pictures of every child in school (580) with music!
- Help run a week long bookfair at school so the library can receive $1,700.00!
- Organize class parties, with decorations and food to suit a king!
- Put on teacher luncheons.
- Do school fundraisers so we can buy things for our school, and operate the PTA.
- Put on Donuts with Dad and Muffins with Mom parent education programs.
- Volunteer at Church and other civic organizations.
- Take meals to friends in time of need.
- Go to Bible Study, Excercise class/gym, and other meetings.
- Go on Field Trips.
- Take pictures of all important events for our children.
- And more!

We are women, hear us ROAR!!!

Next time you're at a dinner party where your husband works, and another woman asks you "what you do for a living"? tell them that you are the director of a small corporation & that you multi task on a daily basis to over see several others & no two days are ever the same!

Please Note: Corporation means - corp - body - a virtual body that does business - a family can be considered a corporation.

Don't ever feel like you're not worth a million dollars, because believe me , no one could afford to hire someone to do ALL that we do!

Just Disney

Well before I get too much further with this blogging thing, you are going to find out that I love Disney. Walt Disney World, Disney Store, Tigger, Mickey, anything Disney! So, over time I expect to have many posts about it because I've become an unofficial expert on the place having been to WDW 9 times!

I guess the another reason for this post is I realized that my passion for Disney is rubbing off on my children. AJ, my 4th grader came home from school with 2 pages of instructions for the required biography book report! No, book reports are no longer just a written report. They are PROJECTS! Biography reports include: poem as to why the person is famous, what they did/are known for; a time line; a hand drawn picture of the person; major notes - 4 pages in specefic catagories; rough draft, and final report, minimum of 2 pages. This grade counts 2X in the grade book.

The point of this blog you may ask? My 9 yr old son picked Walter Elias Disney as the person to do his book report on!! 7 trips (we have a DVC membership) to WDW, the scrapbooks, and the clothes have not been 'lost' on him, he really does get 'it'!

Snow Day - Lubbock Style!

So, I told you about the ice storm right? Well, it got worse before it got better!
Tuesday Evening, the kids played in the accumalating snow/ice and came in every 15 minutes to ask if I thought school would be canceled.

I kept saying no! LISD won't ever cancel school again, that's another post! At 7:30 PM my phone rings and I see that it is the schools prefix! The emergency telephone tree system is in use!
School has been delayed for 2 hours in the morning. So, instead of sliding to school at 7:45am we can slide to school at 9:45am! And slide is exactly what we did. WE SLID right thru the STOP sign to the major BUSY street. Thank God there were no cars at that moment. We crossed, and skated our way 14 blocks to the next turn. We slid thru another Stop sign and then the car went this way and that way. Amelia asked why I was driving so curve-a-ly(is that a word?) I said I wasn't, the car was!! Finally making it the 5 more blocks to school, I was never so happy! Oh no, I now had to make the opposite trip to go back home. UGH!

So, Want to see what the kids did with an extra 2 hours this morning. Do you think they read, or worked on book reports that are due next week? Yeah, right! Look for yourself -

Yep, the zip cord! Skiing on the zip cord is great fun. Just push each other up, or get Mom to push you up and ride/ski down!

So, that is how we do it in Lubbock. We don't have a true, snow day, we only have a snow, 2 hours!!

This Could Be Addicting!

My niece has been blogging for years. I started this blog last August and kept running into difficulities. Well, now that I have a few kinks worked out I think this could be addicting! If I could just cure the dyslexia!!

Ice Storm

The country is in an artic freeze and Lubbock isn't going to be left out. We awoke this morning to a blanket of white icey snow. Maybe I should say that I wasn't surprised, I heard the rain downpour/sleet hit the roof at 2:30 in the morning!

It is really quite beautiful. I don't object to the ice or snow. It is getting around in it that I HATE. People in Lubbock do NOT know how to drive in this mess. Growing up in Chitown I'm use to this. Of course we had snowplows salting the streets to make things easier. But down here in the SOUTH that would be a waste of money, right?

I also HATE the COLD and WIND. I kept moving south after HS to get to warmer weather. I didn't want to spend all my life shoveling snow and freezing! Oh to be back at WDW at Blizzard Beach. There you get the pretty with the warm!

Well my pics aren't where I want them exactly, but at least tyey are ther!

stay warm!
