Halloween Confections

This is how my friend Kelly and I spent yesterday! Cooking Chex Mix, making Goblin Toes, and molding chocolate with pretzels. What a day! We got better with practice. The frustrating thing was that the candy melts didn't always melt! Any tips on midnight black? It looked like the sugar crystallized and I tried adding oil, but I never got it to work.

On a blog I follow, Gourmet Mom to Go, I found this adorable and easy recipe. Goblin Toes! Nutter butter cookies, Green candy melts, Golden Grahams, and Cocoa Puffs. (I used the chocolate from Reese's Puffs, couldn't find cocoa puffs!

Dip the nutter butters into the green chocolate. Put a golden graham onto the end for the toe, and Puff cereal for the wart! Let set. Then paint the golden graham with red candy melt! You'll see in a min!

Oh, the candy molded pretzel mummys. We get better, just wait!

Goblin Toes ready for red! Mold ready for the fridge!

Appetizing aren't they?!?

Goblin Toes, some painted red ~ the finished ones, others waiting to be finished!

How about them bones?
A few more!  I really like the yellow in the windows of the haunted house!  These are easy, just TIME consuming!  Hope the kids like them.

Well, all of this is for the BIG PARTY Saturday night. I hope to get some good pictures! I'm afraid it is going to be bigger than last year when I was trying to keep it smaller! One Mom actually called to RSVP, and asked if her daughter could bring a friend. I said yes, and the Mom said, well, I didn't think one more would matter since the entire 6th and 7th grade are invited!!! My response, REALLY??

How do these rumors get started? Amelia and AJ did NOT hand out invites to the entire grade level!! Oh well, wish me luck!

You've Heard of 52 Card Pickup???

Oh to have had some extra hands for a picture.  There we were, in the check out lane at SAMS, on a busy Sunday afternoon.  A place I normally don't frequent on the weekend.  Amelia and I were unloading 2 carts of goodies and necessities for the upcoming Halloween Party.  All of a sudden I hear,

MOM, !!  I quickly turn and there they were, 250 small super bouncy balls going every direction!!!  I leaned forward, caught the container, caught 4 between me and the counter, but that was that, goodbye bouncy balls!  Then, within the next 2 minutes the most marvelous thing happened.  Kids from all around started handing me bouncy balls.  Kids were going under check out counters, under display counters, and even the guy at the door who checks your list came to me and asked, "Are you the lady with the bouncy balls"?, when I replied yes, he plopped 2 in my hand!

Amelia's red face, was now cracking up, my friend, Donna, who had gone with us, was laughing so hard, and I was having a hard time getting the balls back into the container fast enough for all the little hands wanting to give me more!   I just kept saying "thank you" to all these little kids who had hand fulls of balls!  Then the check out lady almost took the lid off again.  Oi!  Help me get out of here.  What was I thinking, buying 250 bouncy balls for the party anyway?!?  And, no, I did not count them! The container looked as full as it did before the 'game' of 250 ball pickup!

Sorry, no picture of the balls on the loose, we were too busy recovering wild & crazy balls!

Have a good week.

Fastest TONGUE in the WEST!

Happy New Year, just after midnight!  Elke had to get her champagne too.  This has always been one of my favorite pictures, and I thought I would share it, especially for Camera Critters!

Hope you are having a great weekend.

$500, $1,500, $3.500, $5,000!!!

When my sister who is 12 1/2 years older than myself had to have braces the cost was $500.  Mind you she was born in 1949, go forward to the early 60's and that was a lot of money!  Now, go forward to the 70's and my braces were even more expensive ~ $1,500!  Chris and Tyler had braces, in the 90's and the cost was $3,500! now it is Amelia and AJ's turn.

Yes, that is what we did yesterday!  The cost for each of them?  $5,000!  NO, we don't have dental insurance!  I think Kevin should have been an orthodontist instead of a doctor!  The new technology of the Damon braces is really cool.  The Doc's (ortho's) use the mouth molds to fit the braces to the teeth.  So when we took the kids in, they brought out these plastic molds, like your crest white strips, and placed them on the teeth.  Then they used this ultra violet heat tool to set the brace to the tooth.  Peeled of the plastic mold, heat set the brace some more, then put in the wire, and viola, you are done!

Look at the pictures below, I tried to get the procedure, but it was difficult!  Anyway, the kids will have braces for 14 to 18 months!  Oh joy!!  And we have empty wallets :-)

Amelia before!

The ultra violet light heat sets the braces on the bottom.

 AJ is prepped and ready!

Wish I could have this tool for Halloween!

AJ with braces :-)

I have a picture showing Amelia with hers, and her cool colored chain in front to close her gap, but the computer is not wanting to upload the pic!  Oh how I hate technology sometimes!

Oh well, just had to share the kids misery.

You Have To Be Smarter Than the Technology!

Personally I greatly dislike T-9, the auto spell feature on cell phones. You start to spell a word while texting and this feature pops up with a word it thinks you are trying to type. People in a hurry don't read and select! Thus the problem. Have you received a text that made no sense at all?? I have on many occasions, the most recent being Tuesday.

I receive this: "New Egg has Groombo available for $19.99, blu ray/DVD combo!"
My response: " ??? did you mean Ironman???"
His response: " yes, I didn't check T-9!"

So, when he was here at my house yesterday I was asking him about the text and he pulls out his phone. He starts to type Ironman, and it changes to Groombo! So we had a laugh.

I'm getting pretty good at deciphering texts that make no sense, but I do wish people would proof before sending. Just saying :-)
