Flying Again!!!

Hello friends! I know I've been MIA and I apologize for this. But since August life has been rather nonstop around here. At the end of July the mailman finally brought the most anticipated piece of mail ever..... the letter from the FAA!!

DOC, KEVIN, got his medical back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This meant he was legal to fly again, 3 years after his heart attack, the FAA had finally cleared him to fly our home built airplane again.YIPPEE!!

So, we called our college friend and CFI , George who lives in KY. George flew commercially out here and spent an intensive non stop weekend getting Kev back up to snuff in his flying skills. 3 years of not flying, Kev wasn't rusty, he was corroded!!!! This all took place on the weekend of Aug 3rd. That Monday, we loaded Amelia, myself, George, and Kev into the Cozy and flew George back home to KY.  We got to spend the night with George and his wife Andrea, see their beautiful home on the residential airpark. But the most amazing thing, was getting to go up in George's Czechoslovakian Zlin an airplane designed to do aerobatics! This is a 2 seat airplane. George took up Kevin, then Amelia, and then me! We did , loops, rolls, and inverted flight!!!! What a blast!!!!! I'd like to share pictures from that weekend, from flying there and from the flights in the Zlin. Thanks George, that was an awesome experience!!! Doing aerobatics is just great!!!

Leaving Lubbock, it is called a COZY for a reason!!!!

 W TX is flat!

From the back seat you see the main wing!

Kevin and George, college buddies.  George introduced Kevin to me!

Norman, OK... OU campus!  Arch rival to OSU!!!!

 Curse you Red Baron!!!!
Snoopy's airplane!
Aside from loving all things Disney, I also love Snoopy :-)

Don't remember which airport this was, we needed gas and pit stop!

I think this may be my new fave picture taken from the Cozy!  I just love the clouds, the wing, the reflection of the winglets!
I wish there wasn't so much glare off the canopy of the plane.

In KY, Kevin is going up in the Zlin!!!

If the Cozy could land on grass, I'd be tempted to move back to a cold climate!!!

 And they're back!

 Amelia's turn!

 She's off!

 She's smiling!

 My turn!!!

 That's the peanut gallery!!

Instrument panel!

 KY is hilly!

Kinda strange to have a propeller in front when taking pictures!!

 coming in on final!
What an awesome and amazing ride that was, so much fun!  Thanks George!

 Sunset....

I'll have more adventures for you. Needless to say, Kevin is thrilled to be back in the air, and he is flying to the hospitals that are further away! Yee Haw!!! Cozyflier

25 Years of Memories!

6-8-85, Dr. Kevin and Carrie Funk about 5 minutes after being married! Wedding dressed designed and made by my Mom!!

Well unless I find time to start scanning negatives, you aren't going to get the full 25 years, start counting your blessings now! But I have spent some time going through my photo files, and believe me that does take TIME! I have found several of Kevin and myself taken on or around our anniversary. I have discovered that in the last few years I have been very lax about taking pics on the actual date. This will be cured today!!! Just be patient with me, life is hectic at the moment!

Anyway, I wanted to say Happy Anniversary to my Love , you are so special to me. I'm honored that you chose me all those years ago, I've known you 1/2 of my life and look forward to spending the rest of my life with you!

10 yr anniversary! That is Chris and Tyler way up there in the top photo! They were little!

2004, look how little Amelia was!

Corn Maize

20 years, Hawaii!

March 2007, Mexico, the most expensive 'free' trip I ever had. This is the trip that almost killed me, really.

The 4th in Bethany Oklahoma, already 2 years ago. Time is starting to really fly!

So, this one should have been above, sue me! This was in June, 08. My most favorite place, can you guess? WDW, Toontown, in Minnie's yard :-) Celebrating our anniversary a little late.

Niagara Falls, 'nuff said!

Mt. Rushmore '09

We may be a little thicker but I think we have aged well!!

Here's to 75 more years :-) I love you Kevbear!

I Thought it was Going to be a Jammie Day!

It was Sunday. I had worked everyday last week, even covered a Saturday shift of 5 hours for a co-worker! I was tired. My plans were made ~ spend the day in my Jammie's getting laundry done and RESTING!

Well, best laid plans of mice of men! Around 11am I get a text from Kevin that he is having chest pain! (HX lesson: Exactly 1 yr ago on 12/13 he had a heart attack and received 2 stents. I had JUST started working on my Christmas letter and finished typing a paragraph explaining the above!) How is that for timing?

Text:

Kevin: Chest pain, getting EKG

Me: NO!

Kevin, No? you don't want me to get EKG?

Me: Yes, EKG!! No, to chest pain

Kev: few mins later, EKG abnormal, faxing to Cardiologist

Me: Oh Crap! What Can I do besides panic? Do I need to Call Matt?

Kev: Out of 2 meds, need Nitroglycerin, do you see it on my counter?

Me: NO! I don't see it!! Do I need to get dressed? I was having a Jammie Day!!

Kev: Feeling nauseated, I called Matt.

Me: OK

Kev: Come get me, Dr. wants to see me at Heart Hospital now!

Me: OK.

Kev: Bring someone else, my car is here!

Me: How do I get to LaMesa??

Kev: I-27 south

Me: OK, leaving in about 5

Kev: Who is coming with you, Donna??

Me: Everyone is in church! Give me a few minutes. (I make several calls, finish getting ready. No luck finding anyone to ride an hour with me. Chris, our son, is in a major study session for a final on Monday)

My phone rings, a friend had pick up something for me and wanted to know if she could drop it by the house!

Kelly: What's wrong:

Me: I have to drive to LaMesa, Kev possibly is having a heart attack, I can't find anyone to go with me to bring his car back.... (out of breath sounding desperate!)

Kelly: I can go with you!

Me: Thank the Lord!

To Kev: Kelly can come with me, she is leaving the mall, will be on the road in 5 to 10~

Kev: Main nurse might be in labor this morning, strong braxton hicks contractions!!!

Me: Exciting day at the hospital! Kelly is here, we are leaving......

I drive 78 mph down the highway to LaMesa to get Kevin, hazard blinkers on the entire way.

We get there, get him in the car, Kelly gets his car. I had warned her that I would be 'putting the pedal to the metal' coming home. I did 90 mph coming back to Lubbock! Again, hazard blinkers on. The Heart Hospital is on the far side of town from where we were coming in from. It was the longest drive in history.
Kevin's pain was fluctuating as was his temperature. He wasn't running fever, but he kept feeling hot, then cold, then back! His color wasn't good. Finally made it to the hospital.

Here he is in the ER. Labs came back good, no heart damage this time. 1 year ago his MI was classic reflux, not MI. So we had to be sure this time.

They kept him over night for observation and to do a stress test. That will be another blog!

How was your Sunday the 13th?

Dads

Happy Father's Day to all the dads in bloggy land! I thought I'd take a moment and do a blog about a wonderful dad, my husband, Kevin.

What is a Father? Well, it is a man who decides to help bring a child into the world simply enough. However, to be a Dad takes a lot of work. There is no training manual that he can read and learn how to be a dad! This is a job learned by the school of hard knocks and if we are lucky, he turns out to be a fantastic one.

I think, we have a GREAT one!

He works long hours and is away, so we can have a home.

He plays games with the family and everyone has fun!

He makes Star of the week posters that are out of this world!

He built an airplane in the garage so the family can travel farther distances, easier and have a blast!

He flies the family to visit our cousins, and then we have FUN times!

He supports the kids in their decisions and encourages them. Allows them to make mistakes but is there for support.

He can say I love you with his eyes.

He can make being in the hospital Christmas Day fun!

He makes crepes for the family and entertains us at the same time!

I could go on and on and post a bajillion pictures! But I think you get the point. Doctor, pilot, handyman, DAD ~ what ever title he goes by he is one SUPER MAN!!!!

Love you Kev

24 Years ~ WOW!

Happy Anniversary Kev! Doesn't seem like 24 years, does it to you? Some things don't change, well, OK, maybe they do. Our love for each other has grown stronger, our family has grown, and our waistlines have grown!!!!!

24 down, 76 to go! Just wanted to tell you how much I love you. Looking forward to having you back in town for 2 days, going to dinner, and just being able to be with you.

Jan 1985, our engagement picture! Man we were young! My scanner isn't working, I had to take a picture of the picture in my bedroom!

June 8,1985 our wedding day. It was hot in Oklahoma! Maybe I should have gone back to Chicago for the ceremony!

May, 2009, still in love after all these years.

For our 10 year anniversary Kevin went above and beyond. We flew to a B&B, he had a limo waiting at the airport, 1 rose had been delivered to the house, the other 11 were waiting for me the next day at hotel here in Lubbock after we flew back home and dropped of the 2 boys! Catered dinner in the room after swimming, candles, cards, champagne, and a banner he made on the computer!

Our 20th was spent in Hawaii. One of my roommates from college gave us her condo over there! We flew our plane to CA, and then commercially to HA. That was an awesome trip.

Life has been so chaotic here, that this year will be working on the shed, and dinner, maybe at the French restaurant.

But next year, watch out, it is planned: A 5 night Disney Cruise to the Bahamas!!!!

Yes, honey, You're the Inspiration!

Love ya,
Cozyflier
