Yard Sale!

We did it! We had the yard sale that I had been planning on doing all Spring!!! Aren't you proud of me??! Oh boy what a lot of work these things are!!! And for not much return. But we did stress that this was a Fundraiser for AJ's trip to Washington, DC for his Junior National Young Leaders Conference. His teacher nominated him for this honor, and he wants to go. I priced almost everything at $1.00 ~ clothing, shoes, stuffed animals, etc. Only some furniture from our office that I had did I price higher. We had also recently replaced ceiling fans, and a chandelier. So I was able to get rid of a lot of stuff. Amelia and I are driving AJ to DC. AJ will attend his conference and Amelia and I will go see all the sites! This will be great driver's ed for Amelia and much cheaper than airfare for AJ. I've been to DC 3 times.  Amelia and AJ have not. Our older boys have been. So this is a great opportunity for them to see our nation's Capital. I was so busy with setting up, running the sale, and cleaning up that I forgot to take pictures! Oh well, you've seen 1 yard sale, you've seen them all, right? Anyway, we've been enjoying swimming, and catching up on sleep now that it is summer! Enjoy your summer. Cozyflier

2012 Recognition Ceremonies

Well school is out and I'm trying to catch up! The end of May is always busy, I'm sure all moms know what I'm talking about! So, I'm just now getting to posting about recognition. I think most of Texas does this, but I'm sure about the rest of the country. The kids are recognized for excelling in school and given award certificates. Here in Lubbock they have done this since Kindergarten. Now, I'm not saying this is good or bad, I just know that with my 25 yr old that by the time he got to HS graduation he didn't want to go to the ceremony! And he was an honor graduate. Chris is graduating from Texas Tech in August and he absolutely will NOT go through a ceremony for me! So, I enjoy these little things while I can! So what do you think? Are we rewarding are kids with mediocrity and getting them use awards, or do they deserve awards for being good citizens in school, and being 'outstanding' in math, science, history, etc? Are we setting them up for failure later in life? I'm just curious on your views! Amelia has dyslexia and central auditory processing hearing loss. She works EXTREMELY hard during the school year. We are very PROUD of her. She maintains A's and usually gets 1 or 2 B's. We think that is exceptional. AJ gets straight A's without much effort. They both have very high IQ's, just like there older brothers. I'm not bragging, just stating facts. Are we setting the kids up to expect rewards for normal behavior that we expect? I'll get off my soapbox and post pictures from the recognition ceremony that our school does to RECOGNIZE the kids for sports, scholarship, citizenship, service to the school, and such.

Grilled Tater Tots!

Kev got this recipe from a nurse at one of the many hospitals he works in. It is so easy and so GOOD!!!! So Good. So Good. Had to get my Neil feel in there!! OK, grab some foil, tear a square, put a dab of butter/margarine in, put a few frozen tots in, about 6, sprinkle in some season salt, garlic, pepper, onion powder, and the roasted red pepper sprinkle season. Wrap it up and throw it on the grill while you cook your meat. Serve with your meal. YUM! The tots will be soft and did I say Yummy? That is it. How is that for Easy?

Ingredients

Frozen

Try this on your grill, you'll be glad you did! Cozyflier

8th Grade Banquet

Saturday night was Amelia's 8th Grade Banquet. It was really special because a boy asked her to go! She has been in heaven since he asked her. We got to meet him a week ago when we did a little party for a friend. Alex is very nice and very tall! The banquet was at a very nice country club, Alex and his father picked up Amelia and when they were ready to leave, the Stang and I went out to bring them home. We picked up some ice cream after wards and came home then we took Alex home! However, before banquet, we had taking pictures. Luckily, Ashley, 'adopted' daughter came over and helped take pics because I was crazy busy cooking dinner because Dad was leaving town to go work a reverse 24 hour shift! The good news is Dad was actually home to see Amelia! So, here are pictures!

NO, we didn't buy the dress to match the car!  Actually, we bought this dress for the cruise last Nov/Dec!!!  I had banquet in mind when we bought cruise dresses for Amelia!

 Just chilling!

'Sisters'!  Like I said, Ashley had to take most of these pics, but I kept running around, posing Amelia!  It is amazing that I didn't burn dinner.  I just love my grill!  How's that for a non-sequiter!

You want me on Top of my car!!

Wish I could drive us to Banquet!

 Watch out DAD!!!

Aw, brothers and sisters can get along!

 Father and daughter!

 Us!!

 Most of the family!

 Waiting on Alex!!

Hair, makeup, and nails ` Gorgeous!!!!!

 Just love all those curls!!

 Amelia and Alex!

Well, this was the first hurdle! I guess next will be Jr/Sr prom. I know I'm biased, but I think Amelia looked just beautiful. Alex is very nice and polite. Oh, the kids filled out forms in school this past week and voted for classmates on who would be the most likely to:...... Amelia was voted to Most likely to be an 8th Grade Teacher! So this was Amelia's 8th grade banquet. Such an exciting weekend. Cozyflier

Spring Cleaning

Do you Spring Clean? As I mentioned in my Easter post, I've been organizing drawers. Then I decided to tackle AJ's closet, what a job that was! Thanks Ashley for your help!!

Today, I started on my side of the master closet. I'm only 1/3 of the way done after 5 hours! I tried on all my clothes! You should be proud of me, I'm such a packrat. If I hadn't worn it in the last year, or it was short waisted, or it didn't fit, it left my closet. Sniff, sniff! I'll have to finish Tuesday, Doc will be sleeping tomorrow. I don't know why, but for some crazy reason, I've been forgetting to take pictures. You'll just have to take my word, that I've made a lot of progress and in the next month I'm going to have a BIG yard sale to make money to help pay for AJ's trip to Washington, DC. More on this later!

Good luck if you do Spring Clening!

Lubbock Arts and Comic Book Festival 2012

Today we went to the Arts Festival which also includes the Comic Book and a costume contest! We saw lots of neat art work, and lots of pretty jewelry! But for us the cool part was the people in costumes! My oldest son Chris put on his Storm Trooper costume; Aj, my baby, put on his Jawa costume. Walking around the exhibits and having people want to take pictures is always a lot of fun.

At the last minute we decided to enter AJ into the costume contest. AJ wasn't so sure, but I convinced him. I'm glad I did, because there weren't many kids in his age bracket, and he wound up winning 1st place!! I'm so proud!!!

Here are some pictures:

AJ the Jawa!

As you can, many people dressed up, and Star Wars was well represented!  Amelia is being held prisoner!

Now, I'm being held!

AJ won a really cool toy for his prize, he's quite excited and having fun playing with it. It is a motorized Actuator expanding set. Not bad for someone who really wasn't sure about entering a contest!

So, how was your Saturday?
