Worried

I'm stressed..... Mom is NOT working with the Physical Therapists. I understand that there is a lot of pain, but if she doesn't put in some effort, she won't ever walk again. I've never seen her act like this with pain.

I need all to pray for her. She is suppose to be moved to rehab on Wed. This could be interesting if she doesn't make any progress.

Here We Go Again!

Oh NO!!!

Scene 1: Saturday, house full of people, actually, yard full of people re-building shed, Tyler and Ashley had left to take Grammie back home. 1st, quick stop at grocery store for some cookies for Church.

Phone rings, Tyler - Heads up, Grammie just fell. Will call you back.

A few seconds later we hear a lot of sirens.....

A minute later phone rings, ambulance is taking Grammie to hospital for X-rays, she thinks her leg is broken!!!

3 hours later, the ER doctor calls tells my husband, a doctor, femoral bone (thigh) is broken, being admitted. Tyler & Ashley had already gone back up to the hospital.

Act 2, Flashback, L hip was broken at Easter, 6 mos prior, just recovering and starting to get around from that.

Act 3, During the day we had had 2 sprained ankles working on the shed.

Act 4 Grammie calls friend to come pick up cookies and take to church. She comes into house, steps off the step down into sun room and falls!!!!

HUGE Goose egg on forehead, bleeding cuts on both arms from blood thinners. Doc has to come in from building shed and put on steri strips and bandages!

Finale Cookies are cursed! Time to shut down and have a glass of wine!

Crazy Day

Hello Friends ~
Please think of me tomorrow, Wednesday, when I'm going totally insane! At 10AM I get this blasted fractured tooth taken care of. The doctor is discharging Mom from rehab, no more therapy for the hip. Mom is refusing skilled nursing. They informed I should have her picked up and moved by noon. HA! Well, I don't think that is possible, I explained. Social worker calls back, permission to stay until 2PM!! OH good. And I pick my kids up from school at 3!!!

What about a transport service, like how she got to your hospital??? You can pay out of pocket, about $200 and they will take her to her home!!! Gee thanks! Wonderful system we have here!

I just want to crawl back under the covers and not come out! After I get Mom home, I will have to go to the grocery store after I get her list. Mom thinks she can drive, the doctor hasn't told her she can't. Hello!!!!! Broken hip, 2 weeks post OP and no driving restrictions???? When I had babies I couldn't drive for 4 weeks!

Lord, I need patience, RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crazed LIfe

Hello Friends, I'm still around, but Mom's emergency surgery last week has taken me away from home. I had a few posts done up ahead of time, but I fear they are probably at an end!

We moved her from the hospital today to a rehab hospital so they can concentrate on P.T. The nice thing is that this new place is smaller, and I was able to get Elke, the dachshund, into see her. I think pet therapy is excellent and seeing her dog did wonders for her spirits.

The Sundowners Syndrome is showing itself, but may not be as bad as a year ago when she had her knee replaced. However, it is scary to see someone you love go all wacky and act totally demented.

Anyway, just wanted to let my faithful followers know, I am here, but I'm not!! I appreciate your e-mails and your prayers.

Holidays!

Ok, I'm starting to get a little paranoid about Holidays in this family. You see last Christmas my Husband, Kevin, was in the hospital. He had a heart attack and received 2 stents on Dec. 12. By Dec. 22 they were 85% blocked!!! Back into the hospital we go. He was able to come home Christmas NIGHT! Mind you, he's only 48.

Today, Good Friday, I'm awakened by my sweet mom, 84, saying she couldn't get out of bed. Let me digress a bit - she fell Tuesday night in the garage. Thank heavens for life alert. I met the EMS and firemen at her house (life alert took 20 mins to call me!) She had been down on the floor for some time! Anyway she said she was fine, she didn't want to go to the hospital, and was getting around with her cane pretty well.

Wednesday, Kevin got in town and checked on her. She was sore, but still walking, only used Tylenol for pain! NO!!!! She did not want to go get x-rays or go to the hospital.

So, back to this morning... I get over to her house and she can't get out of bed. I help her up, get her to the walker, let the dog out, and call my husband. Kev should be driving in, he was in the ER all night long. Poor Kevin only had 3 hours of sleep. I want Mom into the doctor, I tell him. 10 minutes later, he says, have her there in 45 mins. Oh boy, I have my work cut out for me. Getting her dressed and out the door in 45 mins will be a challenge.

As I'm heading to my car, I realize, I need the wheelchair. I call my son, Tyler. He brings it to me as I'm getting Mom into the Van. I've had 5 hours of sleep and I'm plumb worn out!!

We arrive at the doctor's office, Kevin arrives too! Upon examination, the Dr. insists on X-rays. I'm coming down with a UTI, so I come home to go to the pharmacy and get medication. Kevin takes Mom for the X-ray.

Low and behold, the L hip is broken!!!! Not your typical fracture, no, this is an impacted hip fracture, the ball was pushed up into the socket. When the surgeon got in there, it was a mess. Kevin got to go in and watch!!! Kevin said the ball looked like a glazed coffee mug with LOTS of cracks in it and it just started crumbling.

My mom has been 'walking' on a broken hip for 3 days!!!! Kevin took her to the hospital, got her checked in and situated. Finally makes it home around 3. The surgeon calls him and says surgery will be in about 3 hours. Well, surgery was at 5:30!

Anyway, Mom came thru surgery great. Now for recovery.

So, here it is Easter weekend and Mom is in the hospital. Now we made it thru Valentines and St. Pats without problem, so my question is, do we only have a problem with "Jesus" Holidays??? Hmmm, I don't know, but I'm going to be very careful come next Christmas!!!!

Happy Easter Everyone!
