School SPIRIT Days!!!

Every school has spirit days to my knowledge. But it seems to me that they have gotten a lot more fun since I was in school back in the dark ages!! When Chris and Tyler were in elementary everything was always 50's day and crazy sock day. Even when Amelia was in Kinder it was 50's.

But middle school the last 3 years and high school are really with 'IT'!!! Now we have Nerd Day, Crazy Hair Day, Generation Day, Would You Still Be My Friend If I Wore.... Day, Hippie Day, Mis-Matched Day, Twin Day, etc! Further more my kids are 'brave' enough to wear wild and crazy things to school!

Would you still be my friend if I wore.......?     In this case....Star Wars Pod Racing Geek Helmet!!!

Crazy Hair Day ~ 3, count 'em THREE wigs!!!!  Yes, AJ wore a Dorthy wig, a Punk Rock wig, and a Light Up Yeti wig from Animal Kingdom!!  This is sure to make the yearbook!!!

Nerd Day!  Have you seen all the CRAZY DUCK TAPE out when 'back to school' supplies are out in August?  I think my kids keep them in business!!!  If wearing 3 homemade hair bows is not nerdy, a homemade bow tie, and necktie, the glasses, then I don't know what is!!!!

This is Tourist Day!!!  Can you tell Amelia takes after her Mom?!!!  Look closely at the EARS.  Sorry, it was 7:55am, I'm still asleep!   But these are the new GLOW EARS! Disney T, Ears, camera, lanyard, with room key, and lanyard for school ID.  I think she passed for a Tourist!! Oh and a Backpack!

AJ decided to go against years of tradition and NOT be Star Wars for Halloween!!  WOW, I was in shock.  Well, it paid off!  The school had Generations Day!  How Cool!  I told him he could be past or future!!!  He decided to be past and be Original  TREK ~ I raise my kids so well!

Do your schools have crazy spirit days? Do your kids dress up? Seems like I'm always digging around to find something for AJ or Amelia so the can dress up for school! Usually the night before! Most of the time they have to pay $1 ~ this is raising money for United Way.

Please tell me what kind of special days your schools have.  If you are a teacher, do you dress up??

I'm Proud, But.......

We just had recognition for Amelia, and she received certificates for Honor Roll and Citizenship. Yes, like I said we are proud, but is this necessary? The school system here has award ceremonies at the end of every school year and EVERY student gets a certificate for something!!!

By the time they get to graduation, my kids could care less about the Pomp and Circumstance!!!! My 2 oldest sons didn't want to go to these proceedings by the time 8th grade hit, and I practically had to bribe them to go graduation!

So, my question is this, should the school do away with these award programs and make the kids wait until graduation?? Therefore graduation would be special. Or, should we keep going like we are and kids keep receiving certificates for being good citizens, which I think should be NORMAL!!!!

Don't get me wrong, Kevin and I are very proud of our children. Amelia has worked VERY hard this school year. But we are wondering, are the schools promoting mediocrity?

Just food for thought! What do you think?

Science "Camp"

You know these 'wonderful' state tests that the kids have to do? In Texas they are called TAKS, at least for this year. The teachers hate them as much as the kids. Well, at AJ's school this year we got to experience something new and wonderful, truly wonderful! AJ's homeroom teacher is the science teacher, and she worked really hard to put on a full day of review for the kids. This was the 'Camp', the kids got to rotate through about 40 stations, in 6 rooms and review different areas of science learned this school year ~ parts of a plant, electricity, simple machines, magnetism, weight and balance, solar system, natural/solar/fossil resources, life sciences, etc!

Weight and Balance....

I don't know what a lot of these stations were doing!

Parts of a Plant

Electricity

Simple Machines

With the games, the kids had to answer life science, or earth science questions to proceed/move in the game!

With the help of many parent volunteers, student teachers, the 5th grade teachers and a LOT of work from Mrs. Shofner, this was an excellent review day for the kids. The kids got hands on time and experience from parents and others view points! It was a great day!

Good luck to all the 5th graders on the 29th when the TAKS is going on, I know one school that will do well!

Cross Guard Duty

One of the honors of being a BMOC during 5th grade is getting to be a cross guard! Luckily, AJ got to do this a few weeks back while it was still decent weather. Yes, I'm behind in blogging! Anywhere, here is the cross guard in action!

He really enjoys school. September Student of the Month, student council class rep, and cross guard. Should I ask what's next??!!!!!!

First Day of School!

Yes, I know, I'm jumping back and forth - vacation, school, and everything else! Keeps you guessing though!

AJ decided last school year he wanted to change elementary schools and get to know the kids at the other one, so next year in middle school he would know most of the 6th graders!

The new elementary school is 'AWESOME' in his words! Amelia started middle school. She is liking it now that she is getting use to it!

I managed a few pictures the 1st day as any good scrap booking Mom would do! Enjoy- you don't have much choice, you are on my blog!

Play Day!

Every school year our elementary school has a BIG play day for all the kids. The PE teachers set up stuff to play with all over the school field and we have a day filled with carnival type games. Face painting, jumpers, water slide, snow cones, candy for sale, etc.

The 5th graders get to help the pre-K and kindergartners get around during their 2 hour play time in the morning. Then the room moms feed all the kids lunch, and in the afternoon, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders get to go play for 2 hours! Here are a few pictures. I didn't get many, I was working a station!

The local gas company brings over a big cooker and cooks all our hot dogs for us!!!

This won't surprise any of you! This is how AJ had his face painted! And, YES, I know he needs a hair cut, I haven't had time!!!

Amelia near the bottom of the really tall inflatable slide!

AJ on one of the inflatables. I don't know the name of this one, but you had to go to the back wall and spring out on a tether and try to grab the bean bag on the wall!

Just before the 3 O'clock bell the kids were given Silly String!! Oh what fun was had and what a mess!!

I was at school from 9am til 3pm! I was tired and burnt. I didn't have on enough sunscreen, DANG! Next week we have 1 full day of school and 2 half days then summer break!! I think all of us moms are more ready than the kids!

Happy Summer everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
