Will I Grow Big Black Ears?!?

As most of you know I just came back from WDW :-)   Because Kevin, my hubby, is an ER doctor and lives out of a call bag I brought back the small bottles of Shampoo from our hotel:

 

When I told Kevin that I had brought back the little bottles for him and showed him, his question to me, " Will I grow big black ears?" I started laughing and turned 10 shades of red! I just love my husband's sense of humor :-)

Gonnorrhea Lectim Disease

Information about a new version of an old disease: Gonorrhea Lectim

The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim. It's pronounced "Gonna re-elect 'em," and it is a terrible obamanation.

The disease is contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior involving putting your cranium up your rectum. Many victims contracted it in 2008... but now most people, after having been infected for the past 1 -2 years, are starting to realize how destructive this sickness is.

It's sad because Gonorrhea Lectim is easily cured with a new drug just coming on the market called Votemout. It's pronounced "Vote em out". You take the first dose in 2010 and the second dose in 2012 and simply don't engage in such behavior again, otherwise it could become permanent and eventually wipe out all life as we know it.

Several states are already on top of this, like Virginia, New Jersey, and apparently now Massachusetts, with many more seeing the writing on the wall.

9 out of 10 doctors polled feel that Votemout is safe, highly effective and therefore recommended as the premiere therapy for this dreaded disease. 

Please pass this important message on to all those bright folk you really care about.

Did You Know?

I'm a little miffed this morning. Did you know that canned Pumpkin is a seasonal item at Walmart? Really? Don't people cook with pumpkin year round?? I walked up and down the aisle where I assumed it would be 5 times trying to spy it. Finally I spotted an employee and asked. It is seasonal she politely said! Go to United, they have it! I have this really awesome dip and AJ has been asking for it so I thought I'd make it for robotics on Saturday. It is easy to make and goes a LONG way, which is good with hungry kiddos!

But this means I have to make another trip to another store! Really??? Seasonal?? Isn't it close enough to fall to have it in??

What Not to Wear!!!

My only question is WHY???? Wish I had gotten the back, the big hair scrunchie holding the tank T up was also priceless! Clinton and Stacey I think you should come to Lubbock!

I'm Proud, But.......

We just had recognition for Amelia, and she received certificates for Honor Roll and Citizenship. Yes, like I said we are proud, but is this necessary? The school system here has award ceremonies at the end of every school year and EVERY student gets a certificate for something!!!

By the time they get to graduation, my kids could care less about the Pomp and Circumstance!!!! My 2 oldest sons didn't want to go to these proceedings by the time 8th grade hit, and I practically had to bribe them to go graduation!

So, my question is this, should the school do away with these award programs and make the kids wait until graduation?? Therefore graduation would be special. Or, should we keep going like we are and kids keep receiving certificates for being good citizens, which I think should be NORMAL!!!!









Don't get me wrong, Kevin and I are very proud of our children. Amelia has worked VERY hard this school year. But we are wondering, are the schools promoting mediocrity?

Pi-nstein Day!

I'm giving you plenty of time! Look at this, ThinkGeek is an incredible web site!

While ordering some gadgets for my son's birthday, I noticed the header add for Pi-nstein day on 3/14. Well this house is definitely Geeky. No, I didn't know off the top of my head that Einstein was born on March 14th, but as the T says, 2+2=5!!!!!

Pi in mathematical terms is 3.14159265 etc! So I can see whereThinkGeek gets 3-14 to be Pi-nstein Day!

I just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention, so they have time to order their very own t shirts, ice cube trays, or dolls in honor of this day!! (No, I don't work for this company!) I like to share cool information!

Your Tax Dollars at Work!

In an effort to go Green, cities such as Buffalo, NY replaced city street lights with new LED bulbs. When the winter storms, ice, snow, etc came, the LED bulbs didn't produce any heat and the ice and snow were not melted. The government had to create special new jobs for people to go remove ice and snow from the new GREEN light bulbs!!!

In the ER, a woman presents with a thumb requiring stitches. When nurses inquire as to how this patient was injured she said she was hammering! Interesting, a straight line cut down the thumb requiring 8 stitches. Apparently the hammer wasn't nearby, she hammered the nail into the wall with a piece of glass!!!!!!!! Yes, Medicaid is picking up the bill.

Do we really want bigger government??

Mac or Jack????

OK, so lets pretend for minute. Lets say you are in some life threatening situation and need to be rescued. Who do you want to rescue you? MacGyver or Jack Bauer???

Most people know who MacGyver is. The ever adorable Richard Dean Anderson, later to become Jack O'Neill on Stargate SG1. Mac was ever so clever, didn't believe in guns and used his mind to get out of situations that people still talk about!

Jack Bauer is the character played by Kiefer Sutherland on the series 24. This is an intense series that just began its 8th season. My son, Chris, discovered this series I think on HULU and then started buying the DVD's. I spent several summer weekends with my blood pressure raised sitting on the sofa watching 24. Jack Bauer is a government trained agent doing what ever it takes to save the day.

So, rather than talk about the weather, I thought we could get a discussion going about TV characters! Think about it, who would you rather have save you? The intellectual guy who makes something out of nothing and can 'Jerry' rig anything, or the gun blazing fist blowing federal agent that is going to save the day time and again?

Really Small Town!

OK, I have to admit, I'm a city girl, born and raised in Chi-town and the suburbs! That is Chicago to you blog friends who might not know the slang! I live in a relatively large city now, 225,000. I've also lived in small towns. With Kevin being a physician, he practiced medicine in rural Oklahoma. Now, I thought a town of 1,500 was small, but while Kevin was driving, the above sign caught my eye. This is a REALLY small town!!!

I also LOVE that fact that in Montana and Wyoming they put the elevation of the town on the signs. I found that unique!

Can you tell I was bored when I actually let Kevin drive some of the trip?!! I was taking pictures of anything!!!!!!!!!

Texas, Yes We're Proud

I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. However, after 15 years in Texas I've learned a few things. Texans are proud!!!!!! Everything in Texas is Bigger!

On my recent trip, I discovered these:

A Texas sized/shaped grill at a rest stop!




You know you are in Groom, TX when you see the world's largest Cross. I feel safer knowing the Lord is watching over us.


And, at the rest stop, look at how GRAND the building is.


The Lone Star State may be 'lone' but it is proud and strong and grand!

Profiling

My son said something to me the other day that really upset me. Tyler is graduating HS and it seems that over the years in school the kids have given him grief because his dad is a Doctor and he is considered a RICH kid!

Amelia and AJ heard this and agreed, the kids assume that since their dad is a Doctor, everything is easy for them.

Why does the world profile or stereotype?

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, there is a big difference between been a heart surgeon, or dermatologist, or an OB Doctor compared to being a Family Physician.

FP's don't get high copays from the insurance companies, they don't get paid well on allowable charges from the insurance companies, and doctor bills are often considered optional to pay! The Dr. bill gets paid last and has to wait the longest. At least here in TX people are in a mind set that if they have a $300 bill that insurance didn't cover or it went to the deductible, they can pay the doctor $5 a month!

But I digress.

NOT all doctors are RICH, not all lawyers are RICH, and not all _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ are poor either. Can't think of a job! But we profile and stick people into these little slots where they belong.

There are other instances where people are profiled, I'm just using this one 'angle'.

I think it is sad when the kids are affected. Sorry, I had to voice my opinion and get on my soapbox.

Peter's Laws

My son, Chris, had me drive down by Texas Tech University last week so we could grab a bite to eat. Tech is out of my 'circle'!!!! I seldom get the 7 or 8 miles across town!

Anyway this 'new' restaurant, Raising Cains is by the University. While eating, I noticed this sign. I started laughing, and had to get my camera out! Yes, I keep my camera in my purse. So, enjoy a good laugh for a Monday, I know I did last week.

The Difference in How Men and Women Think!

OK, I know you think I'm going to go all technical on you and get into analytical psycho babble talk. Well, no, I have an interesting observation to post about.

I have a question to ask you ~ have you ever played Tetris 2 or Dr. Mario with your husband or son?

I know, Wii is the latest video sensation, but we still have fun with the old fashioned Super Nintendo! Over the years we have spent many a weekend or summer night passing time with round-robin tournament style playing.

What has this to do with the difference between men and women you ask? Well, just this ~

Men think Horizontally! Women think Vertically!

Now, if you aren't familiar with these games, the object is to get 3 or 4 of the same colors lined up to make them disappear. In Tetris 2 it is blocks, in Dr. Mario, it is pills!

If I work really hard, I can make a row horizontally, but it is much easier to line things up vertically. My daughter is the same way.

As you know, my niece was in town recently. I had told her my theory on this years ago, and she said she agreed with me. In fact, she thinks it applies to other facets of life with men!

So, what do you think? Does your husband think horizontally?

Beware the Ides of March

OK, so I'm not usually this scientific, that would be my husband! But when my son texted me and asked, "when is Grandmother's birthday?" My reply was this, " the 15th is the Ides of March, the 16th is Grammies B-day, and the 17th is St. Pat's Day!" That is only way I remember!

Then I started thinking, Ides of March, what do I remember, other than Caesar's death? Well, good old Google to the rescue again!!

AMAELA WILEY, AOL RESEARCH has a wonderful article with fast facts, I'm going to borrow some and put them here for you!

1. Every month has Ides, and the 15th is not the only date. The Ides fall on the 15th of March, May, July and October. The Ides are on the 13th of the remaining months.

2. What are the Ides? The Ides come from the Roman calendar, which according to myth was created in ancient times by Romulus, the founder of Rome. The calendar focused on three days that became a reference for all the others. Kalends (the first day of the month), Nones (the seventh or fifth day of the month) and Ides (the 15th or 13th day of the month). The Kalends marked the sighting of the new moon, the Nones the quarter moon, and the Ides the full moon. (Caesar instituted the Julian calendar in 46 B.C., but kept the system of Kalends, Nones and Ides.)

3. Calculating the date using the Roman calendar was complicated, and probably the reason the calendar was replaced by the Gregorian calendar most of the world uses today. If you want to say the date using the ancient vernacular, you'd have to say, for example, today, March 15, is the Ides of March; March 16 would be XV Kalends April, or 15 days before April 1. Make sense? If not, join the rest of us and be glad we upgraded to something simpler. (Only the Eastern Orthodox Church still uses the Julian calendar.)

I know, 2nd blog for the day!! I felt inspired when I awoke this morning!

People in general are superstitious about Friday the 13th! But my inquiring mind wanted to know why! According to a Google search here are a few facts on Friday the 13th:

The whole thing might date to Biblical times (the 13th guest at the Last Supper betrayed Jesus). By the Middle Ages, both Friday and 13 were considered bearers of bad fortune.


More modern myths according to Google:

1. Fear of Friday the 13th — one of the most popular myths in science — is called paraskavedekatriaphobia as well as friggatriskaidekaphobia. Triskaidekaphobia is fear of the number 13.

2. Many hospitals have no room 13, while some tall buildings skip the 13th floor and some airline terminals omit Gate 13.

3. President Franklin D. Roosevelt would not travel on the 13th day of any month and would never host 13 guests at a meal. Napoleon and President Herbert Hoover were also triskaidekaphobic, with an abnormal fear of the number 13.

4. Mark Twain once was the 13th guest at a dinner party. A friend warned him not to go. "It was bad luck," Twain later told the friend. "They only had food for 12." Superstitious diners in Paris can hire a quatorzieme, or professional 14th guest.

5. Buzz, Ding, Beep...

Modern society - we are controlled by these endless sounds! From the moment we are rudely awakened in the morning - BUZZZZZ - by the alarm clock until we go back to bed at night we have constant noise. Lets take a look -

Washers/Dryers - Beep~

Microwaves - Ding

Phones - Ring Cells - dee da deet = text. Any other numerous sounds for other things~ we can have music, vibrations, tones, or whatever!

Cars - Back up sensors - Beep; Horns - BLARE; Turn Signals - Click; Tires - Screech~

Timers - Ding I use them in the kitchen!

Refridgerators - Beep if the door doesn't close after 2 minutes, believe me this gets annoying when you are trying to put up groceries from mega shopping or Clean the fridge!

TIVO - Blips and Bongs~

Lets not forget Doorbells! Both at home and in STORES - so annoying!!

Cash Register/Scanner - Beeps/Blips so that you know you have spent another dollar!


Hmm, with all these noises, do I really want to think about a hearing aids as I get older?
