Get Your Kicks on Rt. 66!

Old Route 66 goes right through downtown Bethany, OK. It is now NW 39th Expressway, but you can still find signs of Rt. 66! I'm a '60s child, I remember traveling from Chicago to Oklahoma on Rt. 66, so having the opportunity to take pictures on an actual bridge from the good old days was fun for the kids, but brought back memories for Kevin and myself.

JUMP

Doc conquering fear of heights?!

I love this vignette of AJ in the cross sections of the bridge!

Funk Family

Obviously Tyler has NO fear of heights!

Mother daughter shot! As with Florida, OKC was humid. I gave up trying to control wild curly hair with all the swimming, high temps, and high humitidy! So I almost look hippie enough for this picture!

AJ, not so sure about this height!

If looks could kill! I was trying for a different shot and Tyler turned right as I snapped the picture! This was HIS fault!

Lets keep the rust off the clothes!

So long, farewell, Adieu

So, this was another activity during the 4th weekend, and it was memorable all the way.

Please Help, Please Share

It is now July 20th.  In 1 month I have to sign re-commitment papers for the 1/2 marathon for Leukemia Lymphoma Society  (LLS).   I'm suppose to raise $3,500.00  I've mailed out letters, sent out e-mails, and still I'm only to 30% of my goal.

If you have donate to this cause, I THANK you from the bottom of my heart.  If you have been waiting, NOW is the time to act!  I know times are tough, but I can NOT afford to have $2,400.00 charged to my credit card, although LLS is a very worth while cause.

Please take a moment and look at my fund raising page ~ http://pages.teamintraining.org/ok/nikesf10/cfunk4

If you have a few dollars to spare, please make a donation.  If you know someone who has suffered from Leukemia or Lymphoma pass this page to them, PLEASE!!

I've been training, not as regularly as I should but I know I can do this.  I've just been stuck in the same place on the $$ amount for quite awhile.  I need to know I have support.

Thank you to those who have supported me and THANK YOU to those who will.

Hugs,

Never a Dull Moment in MY Life!

The rains came to the South Plains. And they poured and poured! We were in OKC for the 4th of July week. Luckily Chris was taking care of the house. We got the call from Chris Sunday afternoon. We were planning on leaving around 6pm, but we got most of our belongings together and were out the door in 30 minutes and left at 3.

We got home at 9:45 pm to wet squishy carpet! Chris and Donna had shop Vac-ed out about 20 or so gallons of water already. My week was spent moving furniture!

See out that window, that is the garden that overflowed and let the house flood!

Carpet cleaners extract water from my bedroom.

We got the den emptied out so the water could be extracted from it, then the carpet came up and went out!

After removing carpet tack strips and a TON of cleaning, it was time to put furniture back in. Wish the bedroom was as easy.

We will extend the kitchen flooring into the den in a few months. Insurance does not cover flood damage. Thought about acid etching and staining, but we don't think it will look good right next to the laminate flooring.

Poor Gizmo, she is bored by all our hard work. She didn't like my interruption!

Really can't wait until I get my bedroom back to normal. It took time to get the carpet guy out to replace padding, tack carpet back down, and get the carpet cleaned. But excitement with Mom has caused me not to be able to get my home back in order. I still have furniture and items EVERYWHERE!

Oh, I'd like a nice boring life again!

Have a calming week, at least for me, Please!

Bricktown

Bricktown is in down town OKC. It is a mini river walk like what San Antonio has.
We took the kids down here so Ashley could experience Bricktown! We had to take a break from the pool for a little while!

This is where the canal dead ends and the fountain I think recycles the water.

The kids loved being able to cool off in the fountains :-)

This did poor Reagan's hair in!

One of the fun things about Bricktown is all the painted wall murals. Like with this one it is difficult to tell where are kids are and where the painted kids are!

At the other end of Bricktown are the Oklahoma Land Run Statues. These statues are larger than life.

Look how little AJ appears on the back of that horse!

Attention to detail is amazing....

So, if you ever get to OKC be sure to take time to go to Bricktown, you'll be glad you did.

Reunion!

The 4th of July has come to mean going to Oklahoma to be with the cousins.  We have become very close to our niece and her family.  Stephanie has a pool so that means lots of fun.  But since most of the family lives in the OKC area it also means FAMILY gatherings.  When Kevin got to town on Friday for the holiday weekend, we started the stream of reunions.  Not everyone's schedule was going to jive for Sunday the 4th!

Hannah & Brent, Kev, Brandon, Bob, and Amelia

Emily, Hannah and Brent's daughter

Kevin and brother Steven that we haven't seen in about 15 years!

Amelia with baby Taylin. Amelia loves babies!!

Ashton and Skylar ~ these 3, counting Taylin are Steven's kids.

Amelia with Brook and fiance Cory.

Don't Rain on our Parade!

If you've been reading my blog you know we spent the holiday in OKC, well, Bethany!  The annual Parade wasn't 100*  It was overcast and misty with a few peaks of sunshine!

Me and Stephanie! I had to put my flags somewhere! Also, I was trying to distract from the naturally curly mess atop my head!

Every parade has the obligatory police cars, mustangs, corvettes, boy scouts, politicians, and fire trucks, but I loved this old fire truck!

However, the main reason we go and watch the parade is for these guys. I call them the Inflate-A-Gang!

Ninja Ballerina Ashley, Doc carried the candy, Sumo AJ, Reagan as a Unicorn, Lead Ballerina Shawn ~ AKA crazy ballerina, and Kenndy as Disco Clown (kind of hidden)

Amelia the smiley ballerina, and the rest of the inflatables!

About 5 minutes after this the rain picked up. Our cameras has been put away, and we decided to go to the car. Then the rain really came down. Normally the parade walkers have a car at the fair grounds or walk home. This year we decided we'd better rescue them.

A bunch of soggy kids!

And some soggy husbands! Thank goodness Stephanie drives a big car.

So, did you enjoy your local parade?

Ooh Aah!

It was a soggy 4th of July weekend for a lot of the country. Hurricane Alex dampened cookouts and fireworks in many places, but luckily in Bethany, OK the fireworks were scheduled on the 3rd! It rained on our parade, literally, but not the fireworks :-) I could post pics forever, but I think you get the idea!

Hope you enjoyed your weekend.
